Clear product information supports better battery-safety decisions.

Battery Safe Systems uses a structured approach to supplier information, product data, technical claims and supporting evidence so that commercial buyers can understand what a product is intended to do, what information supports it and which limitations still matter.

These standards describe the information Battery Safe Systems may seek from manufacturers and specialist partners, and how that information can be translated into customer-facing product guidance.

The objective is not to create more paperwork. It is to preserve the technical differences between products and avoid turning a specific, documented capability into a broader claim than the available information supports.

Five information principles

Product information should help explain the product—not make the decision harder.

Battery Safe Systems aims to apply the same basic principles across manufacturers, product categories and commercial relationship types.

Clear

Terminology should explain what the product does and avoid language that could reasonably create a broader impression than intended.

Accurate

Specifications, attributes and technical descriptions should relate to the actual model, configuration or service being represented.

Traceable

Important performance, certification or regulatory statements should connect back to identifiable manufacturer or third-party information where appropriate.

Current

Material product changes, revised documentation, certification updates and discontinued models should be reflected when they become known.

Appropriate in scope

A claim should not be extended beyond the product, test configuration, conditions or application that the supporting information actually covers.

A practical rule The greater the importance of a product claim to safety, compliance or product selection, the stronger and more specific the information supporting that claim should be.

A cabinet dimension can normally be supported by a manufacturer specification. A claim about containment, fire performance, transport authorization or another significant safety function may require much more specific documentation.

Information requirements

The useful information depends on what the customer needs to understand.

Not every product requires the same dataset. The categories below show the types of information Battery Safe Systems may use when a product or service is onboarded and represented.

01 — Product identity

Which exact product is being represented?

Product information becomes more useful when the customer can identify the manufacturer, model and configuration rather than relying on a generic product-family description.

Manufacturer

Legal or trading manufacturer identity where relevant.

Product family

The broader range or category in which the model sits.

Model / SKU

The specific product code or identifier being sold.

Variant / configuration

Size, electrical configuration, accessories or other material differences.

Revision

Version or revision information where product design changes matter.

Market availability

Relevant countries, regions or versions of the product.

02 — Application

What is the product intended to do?

The product's intended duty helps distinguish similar-looking equipment and prevents one solution type from being presented as a universal answer to every battery requirement.

Primary duty

Storage, charging, isolation, transport, containment, detection or another function.

Battery condition

Intact, suspect, damaged, defective or another defined condition where relevant.

Battery type

Chemistry, format or intended battery family where the manufacturer specifies it.

Energy / capacity

Documented maximum energy, battery quantity or other relevant capacity limits.

Environment

Indoor, outdoor, weather-protected or other defined operating conditions.

Exclusions

Applications or battery conditions the manufacturer specifically excludes.

03 — Technical attributes

Which attributes materially affect product selection?

Technical fields should focus on information that helps distinguish one configuration or operating capability from another.

Dimensions & weight

External dimensions, usable internal space and product mass where relevant.

Electrical requirements

Voltage, load, outlet arrangement, charger compatibility and supply requirements.

Monitoring

What is detected, how alarms are communicated and what functions follow.

Ventilation / thermal

Normal operating requirements, clearances or defined thermal-management arrangements.

Materials & construction

Relevant construction characteristics where they influence use or installation.

Accessories

Compatible shelves, trays, chargers, sensors, suppression or other options.

04 — Evidence

What supports the performance or compliance claims?

Evidence requirements should reflect the importance and specificity of the claim rather than applying an identical documentation rule to every product attribute.

Test / standard reference

The identified test method, standard or assessment where applicable.

Test body

The organisation that carried out independent testing where relevant.

Product tested

The model, configuration or product family actually covered.

Test configuration

Battery type, energy, state of charge, layout or other important conditions.

Outcome

The performance actually demonstrated, rather than a broader inferred claim.

Limitations

Conditions, exclusions, maximum loads or other boundaries attached to the result.

05 — Installation & operation

What still has to be true at the customer site?

Product suitability can depend on installation, electrical supply, location, supervision and other site conditions that are not visible from a product photograph.

Location requirements

Indoor/outdoor use, clearance, ventilation and surrounding environment.

Electrical installation

Supply, circuit, connection or professional installation requirements.

Anchoring / placement

Levelling, anchoring, floor loading or other physical requirements.

Operation

Required door position, supervision, charging arrangement or other operational controls.

Maintenance

Inspection, replacement or servicing requirements where specified.

Site responsibilities

Any building, fire, electrical or emergency measures that remain external to the product.

06 — Commercial & operational

Can the product be supplied and supported reliably?

Customer confidence also depends on accurate commercial information, fulfilment expectations and a clear post-sale support route.

Pricing basis

Current commercial pricing and relevant product configuration.

Availability

Stock status, build-to-order status or other availability information.

Lead time

Expected manufacturing or fulfilment timing where relevant.

Freight

Shipping method, hazardous-goods considerations or special delivery requirements.

Warranty

Warranty period, exclusions and responsibility for handling claims.

Technical escalation

Who supports questions that require manufacturer-level technical input.

07 — Documentation

Which documents help support the product record?

Supporting documentation does not always need to be public, but appropriate source material can help Battery Safe Systems understand and accurately represent important product information.

Technical datasheet

Current product specification and key technical attributes.

Installation manual

Installation, commissioning or operating requirements where relevant.

Test report

Detailed test documentation where performance claims depend on it.

Certificate / listing

Current certification, listing or approval documentation where applicable.

Transport authorization

Special Permit, packaging approval or other transport documentation where required.

Warranty / service information

Manufacturer processes for service, warranty or technical support.

Proportionate requirements

We ask for the information needed to represent the product responsibly.

A simple product should not require the same evidence package as a product making significant safety, containment or regulatory claims. Information requirements should scale with the product and the claims being presented to the buyer.

Information gaps Missing information does not automatically mean a product is unsuitable.

Where information is not available or has not yet been confirmed, Battery Safe Systems may identify that point as unknown, manufacturer confirmation required or not stated rather than creating an assumption.

Technical claims

A short marketing statement can hide several important questions.

When a claim materially affects product selection, Battery Safe Systems aims to preserve the context needed to understand what the statement actually means.

Example incoming claim “90-minute fire protection.”

A buyer may reasonably interpret this in several different ways unless the supporting context remains visible.

Questions that may matter

Better customer representation Describe the documented performance rather than extending the headline claim.

This helps customers distinguish external fire resistance, internal-event performance, propagation behaviour and other technically different claims.

Representation principle Battery Safe Systems does not independently extend a manufacturer's certification, test result or product claim beyond the documented scope available to us.
Evidence terminology

Different types of information should not be presented as though they mean the same thing.

Battery Safe Systems aims to distinguish between what a manufacturer states, what documentation supports, what has been independently tested and what has been formally certified, approved or listed.

Manufacturer stated

Information or a capability statement supplied by the manufacturer.

This does not by itself indicate independent testing or certification.

Manufacturer documented

Information supported by a manufacturer technical document, manual, datasheet or other identified source.

The document still needs to be read within its stated scope.

Performance assessed by an identified external test organisation under defined conditions.

Testing does not automatically mean certification or approval.

A specific formal certification, approval, listing or authorization associated with the product or configuration.

The exact certification or approval and its applicable scope should be identified.

Guidance is not an independent product certification or regulatory approval.
Do not assume Manufacturer stated, independently tested and certified are interchangeable descriptions.

Each describes a different relationship between the claim and the information supporting it.

Product changes & lifecycle

Product information should evolve when the product does.

Information that was accurate at launch can become outdated as products, documents, approvals, configurations and commercial arrangements change.

The manufacturer remains the primary source for product design, performance, compliance and technical information. Battery Safe Systems is responsible for how that information is structured and represented within its own customer journey.

Confidential information Supporting information does not always need to be published publicly.

A manufacturer may have confidential test reports, engineering documents or proprietary information that can support accurate product representation without being suitable for public distribution. Battery Safe Systems may request information sufficient to understand a material claim without requiring proprietary documentation to be published on the website.

Correcting product information

Technical information should be correctable when better information becomes available.

Battery Safe Systems may receive updated information from manufacturers, suppliers, customers or other relevant sources after product information has been published.

Where a material technical statement appears inaccurate, outdated or incomplete, the information can be reviewed against the relevant source documentation and corrected where appropriate.
